Spring home maintenance checklist from Charles Perrett Maintenance

Although it may not feel like it thanks to the weather, spring has sprung! No longer can you use the excuse of it being winter to not get the jobs done around your property and here are our top maintenance tasks to complete in the lead up to summer.

  1. Clean your gutters

With longer day-light hours, spring is a great time to get outside and clear those gutters. Check to ensure there’s no damage caused by winter weather that needs repairing ready for the April showers to move through the system easily.

  1. Fencing and decking

All the damp winter weather could have caused damage to your exterior woodwork. Spring is the perfect time to complete repairs ready for you to enjoy your outdoor space in the summer months. Your outdoor structures will also last longer if they are stained or resealed every year.

  1. Inspect your roof

Winter storms can take a toll on your roof. It’s always worth giving it the once over and catching minor problems, such as  missing tiles and extensive moss growth, before they become major problems, such as a leak!

  1. Exterior painting

A lick of paint can make a world of difference to your property’s appearance. If you have noticed blistering or peeling paint, spring is a great time to get the ladder and brushes out. Just make sure it’s during a dry spell in the weather.

  1. Damp inspection

With the windows closed tightly to retain the heat in winter, the house will have retained more moisture. It’s important to pull your furniture away from the walls to give them the chance to air and you the chance to ensure no damp or mould has started to form.
